Allowing Change and Releasing the Past

Allowing Change and Releasing the Past

“Through allowing, you become what you are; vast, spacious. You become whole. You are not a fragment anymore, which is how the ego perceives itself. Your true nature emerges, which is one with the nature of God.” ~Eckhart Tolle

Recently, I mentioned a tumultuous storm that blew through my garden and snapped off some tomato plants. I took the largest broken tomato top and placed it in fresh water to root. One week later it is well rooted and will be ready to plant in one more week. Mother nature may have broken this plant down but, just as quickly, turned around and allowed for the expansion of new growth. The plant would never resist and knows its true nature.

It is amazing how quickly we can grow, if we allow it. We are often so fearful and resistant of change and the unknown that we close our hearts and minds to the possibilities that are constantly unfolding before us. We do not see the opportunities or, if we do, we look away. Our fears are embedded in the past, our story that we carry with us, and the obstacles we’ve overcome in our lifetime. We are hesitantly waiting for the next thing to go wrong, the next battle to come. But Eckhart Tolle summed it up best when he said, “The past has no power over the present moment.”

We always have the conscious choice to be in the present and allow life to move through us. We can release the past, forgive, move forward and choose to be here, in this moment. We can live in the lightness and peace of now. It is our true nature to allow growth and expansion so that our souls may truly blossom.

Take a moment to reflect. What fears are holding you back? What beliefs about yourself and others need to be questioned? What is your true nature, unmasked by the image of how you want others to perceive you? What changes will break down your barriers and allow new love, joy and hope into your life?
